I must confess I don't know what this blue thing in front of his muzzle is supposed to be...?

I would say it's a bandana or an epic blue beard.

  Of course this happened... I probably should have expected this.

Fire Ruby is right, that IS a blue bandanna, but it also so much more. The bandanna is there to symbolize Tayari's reluctance to show of his machoness. As we all know, Tayari has a tragic past, as with all macho Zebras. This reluctance stems from his childhood days, where he melted his ice-cream from being too macho. From that day on, Tayari showed macho modesty when being questioned about his machoness, which is where the bandanna comes from.

The bandanna also symbolizes his unwillingness to speak out. As we all know, TayTay is less of a macho man of words, and more of a macho zebra of actions. The simplicity of the bandanna is used to show that Tayari is a macho simple zebra that lets his actions do the talking. While some say this is a weakness of his, I can point to the hot hot mares that crowd him every day. I can point to that zebra and say, "That is a zebra of action." Truly, TayTay is an inspiration to us all.

As with the rest of his accessories, it shows that TayTay has bling. But the simplicity of it all shows how modest he is. Obviously, he gave the rest of his spending money to charity to help poor little orphan puppies. This zebra is a hero. Not to mention that bandanna is made from environmentally friendly materials, so now all the cute baby orangutans will be saved. And we can credit it all to this macho zebra.

So yes, we can call it a "blue thing". But we can also call it a symbol... a mark... an INSPIRATION! Thank you for your time. Maybe one day, we can all be as macho as TayTay.

How boring, an artist who interpretates his own work

I hope you don't mind if the subject of the image also tries interpreting it.

The bandanna is a physical representation of a bandanna. The money symbols represent wealth, which is associated with status; those seen as the highest in their station would be the wealthiest. (Obviously it doesn't work that way in practice, but it's still an idea.) This would make the image, which deals with macho-zebra-ness, depict the macho-est zebra of all. The glasses represent toughness and the blue beard represents determination and power.

Note that everything I just described was added by certain others, so all the macho-ness attached to the image by these items will not apply to the actual character of Tayari. Also note that the character Tayari is the absolute furthest from a 'zebra of action' as physically possible. ...Though he is still a zebra.
